Unreal VR brings the classic 1998 Unreal game to Unreal Engine 4 with full VR support

I still consider the first Unreal as one of the best first-person experiences. That castle intro with its ridiculously amazing reflective floors, that moment when players exited the ship and witnessed the game’s open environments, that first encounter with the Scaarj… Unreal was simply ahead of its time. For years players have been asking for a proper remaster and while Epic Games is not willing to release such a thing, we can get a taste now of what Unreal could look like in Unreal Engine 4. Here is the intro scene from the first Unreal game being recreated in Unreal Engine 4

Unreal was a really mind-blowing game – graphics and tech wise – when it was released back in 1998. And who can forget that mesmerising fly-by intro scene? Ah, the memories. But anyway, YouTube’s ‘Tomasz Szab?owski’ has recreated that scene in Unreal Engine 4. Tomasz has done an outstanding job, although I do have to note that I really miss the fog effects that are nowhere to be found in the UE4 recreation. Moreover, I feel that the moonlight is too strong. Nevertheless, it’s a pretty cool recreation so be sure to check it out (we’ve also included the original fly-by intro scene). Celebrating Unreal’s 15th anniversary; Unreal Megapack (featuring all titles) at only 10€ on Steam

Unreal v2
Man, it’s been 15 years since the release of Unreal. I still remember those days. Ah, that Scaarj Skaarj encounter. And those sexy visuals that were powered by 3DFX’s Voodoo 2 card under the GLIDE API. Ah, the memories. But anyway, in order to celebrate Unreal’s 15th anniversary, Epic Games is offering the entire Unreal series (including Unreal Tournament) at only 10€ on Steam. Unreal Gets A New Unofficial Patch – OldUnreal’s Patch v227 Released

Ah, the good old classic Unreal. Such an amazing experience, even for today’s standards. Actually, in some ways its better than today’s games, given the fact that it is not as a scripted mess as most modern-day FPS titles. On the other hand, the storytelling is awful but who really cares, right? Back then it was all about the eyecandy graphics, the incredible AI, the mesmerizing levels, the gorgeous characters and the combat mechanics. But anyway, if you want to relive those moments, you can do so with OldUnreal’s latest patch that brings various technical improvements to Epic’s classic FPS. Cliff Bleszinski would love to return to Na Pali; Unreal reboot could be a mix between Unreal and Skyrim

In a Reddit AMA, Cliff Bleszinski revealed that he would love to return to Na Pali and get involved in a new Unreal game. Although Epic is not currently working on something like that, Cliff felt the need to describe what an Unreal reboot would look like. And if you’re expecting to hear about lots of big guns and mayhem, you’ll be disappointed. Unreal comes to CryEngine 3 with this custom map – Part 2

A while ago, we posted some images of an upcoming map for Crysis 2 that would be based on Epic Games’ classic FPS game, Unreal. Modder ‘Cleric’ has released some new screenshots from his on-going work and we are happy to bring them to you. The map has been tweaked and looks better than before. Sadly, there is no ETA yet but we’ll keep you posted, so stay tuned. Enjoy! Continue reading Unreal comes to CryEngine 3 with this custom map – Part 2

Unreal comes to CryEngine 3 with this custom map

Back in the Quake 2 days, Unreal was bashed to death. I tell you guys, there were lots of PC gamers that hated it (my guess is that they bashed it because their PC systems could not run it). Ironically, these days it is considered one of the best FPS titles and we are glad to see most of those naysayers admitting that it was way ahead of its time. Man, I still remember the first encounter with the Scaarj. Or when you got out of the spaceship and admired that beautiful, huge level with the waterfall. Those were some pretty impressive visuals.
