I don’t know the exact revenue structure of UE but I think it’s just free until a certain amount of sales are made then fees kick in so that’s kinda cool for just individuals and small studios to not have to spend money-time doing everything and can focus on ideas/story and art as much as they can. This is all likely two things, portfolio building for resumes and UE may have proxies out there to promote the engine posing as randos but whatever. No ones buying a game for just the engine really, bioshock inf was a ue4 game so good games can come from it.

UE5 seems to be like the rest though and really pushing the hw usage so you need a current system to handle the overhead and brute force stuttering and the bugs that come along w it. Gives the same impression of the artificial things they put in games to sell hw like only ssd when a 20kb mod fixes the hdd so it plays fine, that’s egregious stuff right there by modern over the top shysterism devs all megacorp owned, another was the ridiculous aw2 mesh issue thus unnecessarily nerfing pascal which was the last honest card gen by ngreedia that didn’t need tricks like dlss, fg etc All your 4k dlss is is upscaled 1-2k rez. Sounds like conditioning there to me. If you can’t make a viable card for true 4k then just make cards for true 2k sheesh.
