Most Wanted was an original entry into the NFS franchise, EA didn't go down the safe route and release yet another sequel to an already successful game like they used to do for quite a while before the release of MW. Same thing applies to Carbon who was a different kind of sequel (and the correct way of making sequels, by giving them original concepts while retaining some fidelity to the original title). There's also several other reasons beyond gameplay like the soundtrack, the simple yet captivating storyline, the cars and their sound design, etc..

Why is this game so loved in the NFS series?
Is it the physics?
I still prefer the previous Underground games because the environments are more interesting. Or even Need for Speed Porsche, because it felt realistic at the time.
